Boostive Music

Boostive Music

Boostive is a Dub-Hop/World/Soul music collective out of San Diego, CA. Introduced to the group by my brother, Thomas, I quickly became entranced by their sound and offered to help develop the visual aspect of the band. Working closely with Boostive’s lead man, Seiji Komo, we have taken this era of the band into the classic comic book style commonly used in the Dub genre.

Inspired by illustrators like Tony McDermott and legendary Jack Kirby, I continue to develop the overall style of the current Boostive world. For most projects, Seiji and crew gave me the basic premise of the track with a rough idea of what the scene could be. Based on that narrative, they allowed me to explore this style without limits.

I genuinely consider this work to be a passion project. I thoroughly enjoy creating these worlds to the Boostive sound. It is a great pleasure to hear love and feedback from the group and the fans. These projects push me to think outside of the typical graphic design world, providing me with a different perspective to approach all challenges.

Below is a project in tandem with All-Town Sound (independent record label that I am in-house designer for) to create Boostive’s first 45 record. The group wanted to represent them playing music and their recording studio “Casa Tortuga” battling the evil aliens.

In 2021, we worked on a collaboration with Amplified Ale to produce a limited run of ‘Brewstive’ for Boostive’s live show at Music Box, SD.

Below, you can see some of the early stage sketches in all their glory.

This is the stage where I play with the narrative and different compositions. Once I feel something has the spirit of the track, I will relay it to Seiji for approval. After full approval, I will dive into a transcendental flow-sate until completion.
